Gaming
This is a big area of development in IT, and appears to be one area of IT that's still booming. But, beware, the actual jobs out there for people who want to design and develop games is fairly small. What's becoming hot are game-like software applications in every day technology. For instance, imagine your refrigerator and your food can talk to each other. That is, your refrigerator has an intelligent tool installed that reads your consumption of items and tells you when you're almost out. Imagine, as you leave for the grocery store you print out a list from your refrigerator. You see you need to buy eggs, milk, oh, and ketchup!

Developing games isn't all fun and games. You need to be strong in math and you have to be willing to face challenging classes. Take a look at the well known DigiPen school and see what they offer.
