Sze-Chai Cheng (Andy), Database Administrator
Andy's job falls under the category of Database Administration and Engineering.

What I like about my job:
"I like working with database development because I love organizing information into something useful. And databases are so powerful - when your information is in a database, you can type just one little instruction and get a whole bunch of information in seconds.
When I come into a workplace, I am a problem solver. People in offices typically have all this information that they cannot use because it's not well organized. I organize their information for them so that they can easily get answers to their questions. It's a lot like solving a puzzle. I just got addicted to it."

How I got started in this field:
"I just got my first computer 4 years ago. Before that I didn't even know or what it could do. I had finished high school and was starting at a community college. A friend of mine said I should check out the world of computers because it is the wave of the future. I took a couple of classes and I was surprised at how much I could do with a computer! I had no idea that I could have the power to create something people really need. They love it!
After I had take a few courses, I got a job on campus as a Technical Assistant. Now I help people solve their database needs. I make a lot more doing this than I would working at McDonald's and I get really valuable on-the-job experience while I' in school."

Getting into the world of IT:
"Explore computers! Get your hands on a computer and use it. Whether it's surfing the web or learning to write programs-you've got to try it. When you run into a problem, try to solve it on your own-the process of trying will teach you so much."
