Joey Eng, Web Developer
Joey Eng is the Web Developer who designed and developed the CyberCareers Web site.

Joey's job falls under the category of Web Development and Administration

Joey says of his job:
"From the first moment I logged onto the World Wide Web, I became fascinated with Web Development. The thought of publishing my own personal Web site on the Internet for the entire world to see just thrilled me. My first Site wasn't much to look at, but I continued to hone my skills and develop a passion for Web Development. My passion in Web Development has brought me many great opportunities, including: a 1-year IT internship program at the Technology Access Foundation and a summer internship at RealNetworks, which was exciting to say the least."

Joey discusses how he prepared for this job:
"The majority of 'techies' (not to be mistaken with Trekkies) when asked about preparation for a career in Web Development (or any IT career for that matter) will reply by stating that the most important training/learning is on your own. You must really spend time to discover what all the buzz in IT is about and how it applies to you. I feel this is how true passion is born for a career in IT. Instead of alienating yourself from the world of IT, engross yourself in it, take it apart, play with it, see what it can do for you, and what you can do for IT."

Viktorya Dadyan, Web Developer

Viktorya's job falls under the category of Web Development and Administration

What do you like about this field?
"Not so long ago we were introduced to the World Wide Web. It became a part of our every day life. It is used for just about anything: business, education, entertainment, communication, advertisement, etc. It is a human´s community on the screen, and I am a part of its development. It's exciting to know that I can make a difference. Just like when an architect brings a new building into the city, I bring a new web site into the cyber world, therefore making it more unique, interesting, and useful."

How did you get into this field?
"My interest in computers began when I took a Web Design class in high school (it was my senior year). The class was about making web pages. I began practicing different things with HTML, and when I saw the result of what a simple code can do, I was fascinated. I began to experiment with different tags, and design (color, graphics, layout). The more I experimented, the more I got into it. It was very appealing for me that I had the power to create anything I wanted with just a simple code. When I built my first web site, it felt as if I accomplished something huge. That was when I realized that I really enjoyed what I was doing, and that I wanted to continue doing it."

What do you think it takes to be successful in this field?
"Just like for anything you do, it takes willingness, patience, and most of all love. If you do not love what you're doing, you better not do it because there is a huge difference between 'just' working on something, and working on something with love and willingness. Also, you need to have lots of patience because without patience you'll never get very far, especially if you work with computers. And remember, computer doesn't control you, you do; you are the one who has the power, use it wisely."
