Since 1995 the National Science Foundation
has provided grants totalling $5Million to establish the NWCET as a National Center of
Excellence in Advanced Technology Education (ATE). The Center focuses on Information Technology.
The Boeing Company provides major strategic input and funding. The Boeing Company contributed $1Million to the construction of the NWCET building and provides cash and in-kind support to NWCET projects. Boeing's chair on the NWCET Directorate donates three percent of her time to the NWCET, and provides additional representation on the NWCET Advisory Board.
The Chauncey Group International, a subsidiary of the Educational Testing Service, is a recognized industry leader in designing state-of-the-art assessment systems that meet professional testing standards. Based on the nationally validated NWCET Information Technology Skill Standards, The Chauncey Group is developing vendor-neutral, nationally applicable assessment instruments and related materials for use in academic, educational and scholastic markets.
The Computing Technology Industry Association is a recognized leader in the development of IT training and certification materials for technicians. CompTIA developed and markets the respected A+ certification as well as certifications in networking and Internet development. It also is a committed supporter of the Emerging Technologies and Careers Symposium 2000.
The The Gartner Institute is the world's leading IT research and advisory companty. Working with the NWCET, the Gartner Institute's certification programs synthesize content from its own research IT professionals with GartnerGroup's research on the IT industry.
Harcourt College Publishers, a pre-eminent educational publisher, contracts with NWCET to develop online Information Technology courseware based on skill standards developed by NWCET. The first online program offerings will include Web Authoring (certificate program); as well as certificate and Associate Degree programs in Computer Information Systems and Networking. Additional program development is planned for other occupational clusters as set forth in the Information Technology Skill Standards developed by NWCET. This online courseware is unique in that it embodies not only technical skills but also related SCANS and academic content expected of a college level program of study.
Microsoft Corporation provides major strategic input and funding. Microsoft contributed $1Million to the construction of the NWCET building and provides cash and in-kind support to NWCET projects. Microsoft and NWCET jointly support faculty development institutes and collaborated with NWCET on the Faculty Industry Fellowships program. Microsoft is represented on the NWCET Advisory Board.
