Regional Advanced Technology Education Consortium (RATEC)

The Pacific Northwest is home to over 1500 advanced technology industries that are key to the nation's economic viability. RATEC was formed in 1994 to facilitate discussions about ways to better prepare students for technologically oriented jobs. The consortium is composed of educational institutions and advanced technology businesses and includes representatives from area high schools, community colleges, four-year universities, and professional organizations.

The objective of the consortium is to be a model education/business partnership, facilitating the development of advanced technology education in the region. RATEC is taking the initiative in the development and implementation of articulated technology degrees between high schools, community and technical colleges, and 4-year colleges and universities. A statewide study completed in April, 1999, Opportunities and Barriers - Filling the Gap documents the challenges faced by higher education as it attempts to meet the growing demand for information technology professionals at both two and four-year levels.

If you have any questions about RATEC or are interested in becoming a member, please contact Peter Saflund at [email protected].
