Clinical Trial Database Administration
Another area in bioinformatics where IT is heavily relied upon is in the area of clinical trials. The Federal Drug Administration requires intensive testing of new medicines and these clinical trials generate a lot of information/data. Database administrators are the folks who keep track of the information and make sure it is stored appropriately and reported accurately.

What do you do as a clinical trials database developer/designer and administrator?
You would support research scientists in the design and development of databases that record, organize and report the data gathered in the clinical trials.

What kind of training do you need?
You need solid database design and development training and a good background in the area of biological testing.
