Jeffrey (Jeff) Johnson is Executive Director of the National Workforce Center for Emerging
Technologies (NWCET), a National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education center, headquartered at Bellevue Community
College (BCC) in Bellevue, Wash. In this capacity, Jeff is responsible for leadership and oversight of programs, product and
publication development, research efforts and consultation designed to advance information technology (IT) education at the
two-year college level as well as providing professional development opportunities for college IT faculty.
Under his leadership, the NWCET is responsible for publishing and sharing IT industry skill standards and
the publication and dissemination of the 2007-08 IT education trends assessment document for educators. In
addition to his NWCET role, Jeff manages the Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) in
support of IT education and training programs at the 34 community and technical colleges in Washington state.
Prior to joining the NWCET in late 2006, Jeff served more than six years as Director of Computer &
Technology Programs at BCC. In that role, he led technical education programs serving more than 10,000
students a nnually – from technology novices to industry professionals -- and managed the school's
IT certification testing center, the largest of its kind in Washington state. Since 2002, Jeff has been
a member of the board of directors for the Global Wireless Education Consortium (GWEC), currently serving
as the elected secretary to the board.
Before coming to BCC in 1999, Jeff served five years in management of communications outreach and
professional development training programs at the University of Maryland University College in College
Park, Maryland. He also possesses federal government experience as a former legislative aide in the U.S.
House of Representatives. Jeff holds a master's degree (’92) in communications from the University o
f Maryland College Park and a bachelor's degree (’87) in communications from Washington State
University. He resides in Bellevue with his wife, Lorie, and seven-year-old daughter, Bridget, and
enjoys spending time and vacationing with his family, golfing, volunteering in the community, blogging,
and keeping up with the latest technology trends.
