Online Course Authors

Overview
The National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies is a National Science Foundation funded Advanced Technology Education Center. The mission of the NWCET is to stimulate and support the improvement of educational programs leading to careers in Information Technology (IT) and to disseminate exemplary practices. One of the Center's projects is to develop, in partnership with Harcourt College Publishers (HCP), a series of Online IT courses. These will be state-of-the-art courses utilizing Web technologies such as animations, simulations, streaming audio and video, interactive exercises and interactive labs. The courses are full content, stand-alone courses that will not rely on a textbook. The NWCET invites individuals to apply as Course Authors who can provide content for the future courses.

Job Description

Great opportunity to be a part of Online Course! We need contract writers for authoring Online courses in various IT areas. Course Authors provide content for a course and ideas for interactive activities such as animations. (The actual programming of the activities and the technical development of the Online courses is done by NWCET.) Good pay, flexible hours.

Activities
  • Write content, with emphasis on activities, projects, critical thinking exercises and resources, using NWCET Word Template.
  • Create simple storyboards to illustrate activities, using NWCET format, as a guide for course technical designers.
  • Responsible for assuring the quality of content and format, using NWCET format.
NWCET Provides:
  • A MS Word document template that is used as a guide for submitting the content
  • Examples of actual courses already developed
  • Examples of interactive activities
  • Guidance in development of the course
  • Curriculum design used as a basis for what is covered in the course
  • Course outlines and learning outcomes
  • Technical development of the course
